We Are Sad in 2020

No matter what anyone says, a lot of people are not doing well right now. If you’re isolated, you get sad. If you don’t support the current administration, you get sad sometimes. If you are black, you’re probably sad sometimes. There’s nothing wrong with that. We have reason to be sad, and we should acknowledge it. Thousands of people are dying, and our country is rife with injustice.

If you’re sad, know that I’m sad too. I have anxiety and depression, and it’s not easy to be an American right now. If someone you love has died or you are facing a bigoted society that devalues you, my heart goes out to you, and I am sad for you too.

I know we all have good days and bad, but you aren’t in it alone. You should tell someone, and watch a dumb movie you like. Take a vacation day if you can. If you have the energy to cook for yourself, do it.

Also, remember that capitalistic expectations of how productive you are are all just made up. They only get faster and more intense, but they are imaginary, in your head, and they don’t define you. As they say, comparison is the thief of joy. If you’ve eaten, good. If you’ve slept, good. If the bigger tasks are too much for you, start with the basic necessities for human survival a la Maslow’s hierarchy and work your way up.

All you can do is do the best you can, and tell your loved ones that’s what you’re doing, because they might not understand. If they won’t understand, you suddenly develop a pounding headache.

If you need emergency help, please take action. You can use use all these different resources.

I’m sitting here, wishing you have a good day soon. Blessings to you and your family.
